Electric Power Cable
Main purpose of electric cable is used to transmit the electrical energy at high voltage.Cable may transmit and Receieve power through, Overhead and Underground cables. Cable conductor is surrounded by insultor material (xlpe,epr,pvc,etc.).Most of the cable manufacturer prefer Xlpe insulating material.According to flow of voltage, cable can be broadly classified
into LV cable,MV cable,HV cable,EHV cable,and UHV cable.
Installation method
Electric cable may be install permanently on conduit buried,cable trays,cable trench,etc.
The cables are used for transmission of electrical energy at high voltage. Hence testing
of Power cables are also must required,standard IEC 60502-1 also explain's cable construction,dimension and Testing requirement for electric cable.
TYPES OF CABLE
Cables types are classified,
According to install,
1.Underground cable
i) Armoured cable (cable is insulation is covered with steel for protection).
ii) Unarmoured cable.(cable not covered with steel,it is very flexible).
In this type installation cables are burid inside the soil,hence we have
to consider soil resistivity,soil temperature.
2.Overhead Cable.
In this type installation method,cables are placed in air
atmosphere,hence we have to consider air temperature and resistivity of
air.
According to flow of voltage,
1.Low Tension cables (LT cable)
2.High Tension cables(HT cable)
3.Super Tension cable(ST cable)
4.Extra High Tension cable(EHT cable)
5.Extra Super Tension cable(EST cable).
NOTE
LT cable can carry voltage upto 1000V.
HT cable can carry voltage upto 11kv and above.
ST cable can carry voltage from 22kv to 33kv.
EHT cable can carry voltage from 33kv to 66kv.
EST cable cable can carry voltage from 66kv to beyond 132 kv.
